Within Pakistani society, vaccinations have long held an insidious reputation with many abstaining from receiving even a single dose due to the hindering disbelief in their effectiveness, mal medical practices, and a history of deception. The expanding large-scale immunization campaigns began in the 1970s with the support of the World Health Organization. By 1994, Pakistan' s Polio Eradication Program had launched a nation-wide effort. It was on a mission to broadcast the high importance of fighting the polio virus that was rampant; with multiple unprecedented levels being recorded each year.
Impoverished communities, particularly within the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have witnessed an increase in governmental presence aimed at encouraging parental advocacy for the vaccinations, as children under the age of five tend to be the most vulnerable to the disease.
Helpful measures to reduce outbreaks include:
Well-rounded vaccines campaigns targeted at educating the youth and families on the importance of protection.
Clear documentation and proper surveillance of medical records, patients, and treatments administered.
The use of sterile medical equipment to ensure the hygienic safety of citizens.
Strong efforts of collaboration with NGOs, reputable health organizations, and local community services to improve outreach and public trust.
